Graviton Technology
What is the best way to achieve this research? I assume with solar plants and satellites. If that is so, does anyone know the amount needed?
I know I ask a lot of questions...lol

There is a calculator: http://www.toolsforogame.com/costes/graviton.aspx?idi=en-us
It is based on energy production, obviously. But since we are talking about such a huge amount, the only realistic way is with satellites. Ideal you want a very hot planet (energy produced by sats is based on max planet temp) to build the sats. I had one in gal 3 at 256 degrees. This gave 66 energy per sat, requiring 4546 sats total.
Due to the enormous amount of sats that need built, you'll need to speed up production so that you're not crashed part way. Nanite 3 or 4 is needed for this. You should also do it in one shot, so you'll need all the resources on hand before you start.
Freelancer recently got graviton. Maybe he'll answer specific questions if you have them.

Re: Graviton Technology
I don't know about here in Fornax, but on Barym going for graviton was extremely difficult. I suspect that was because the more settled world made people bored so whenever they could they liked giving their fleet some action.

Re: Graviton Technology
so that's how another player can stop your graviton research.if they can destroy enough sats then your research is underpowered and it's over.

Re: Graviton Technology
pecisely, when u are building if someone knocks out your sats, u have to start over. Thats why u need at least nanite 3 or even 4 is better +good shipyard, don't forget shipyard contributes to the building of sats(plus other ships).
I had nanite 3 in a #1 slot planet & 70 energy per sat for about 4200 sats & it took 24hrs + & luckily bigfoot attacked while i only needed abot 20 sats to finish in which i did. U need at least 3/4 the res to start & keep feeding the planet for grav while it is building. In the 24 hrs i kept feeding the grav planet & i only started with about 1/3 res but i had 6 planets feeding it.

Re: Graviton Technology
I believe so. The first try bigfoot crashed him early and left him with a few left over sats.

Re: Graviton Technology
Yes it was & as Armedall0 said bigfoot crashed me early & left me with 100 sats.
Re: Graviton Technology
FYI, its not max temp that sats are based on, its AVERAGE temp. you can have a -10 - +60 degree planet or a 49-57 degree planet, the second will produce more power
Production
The formula for the output of a Solar Satellite is
\mbox{Energy} = rounddown(\frac{\mbox{Max Temp of Planet}}{4} + 20)
So if the max temp of your Planet was 36°C then your satellite output would be 29. The maximum output, however, is 50, despite some planets have a high enough max temp that they could produce 51-52 energy each.
In version 1.0 of OGame (the re-design) the above formula has been changed and now looks like this:
\mbox{Energy} = rounddown(\frac{\mbox{Average Temp of Planet} + 160}{6})
This results in slightly lower energy output than before on the hot planets and in a slightly higher energy output than before on the cold planets.
The max temp of the planet is the second (highest) temperature given on the overview page.

Re: Graviton Technology
Also it tells u the energy value of a solar sat when u build one an example from my 1 slot planet,
Solar satellites are simple platforms of solar cells, located in a high, stationary orbit. They gather sunlight and transmit it to the ground station via laser. A solar satellite produces 70 energy on this planet.
