The Beginner's Guide to OGame
The initial expansion of your empire in OGame can be a daunting task without guidance, and being a reletively new player myself, I can tell you first-hand that there are a million things I wish I had known before doing blah blah or deciding to not do blah blah. So without further ado, I give you The Beginner's Guide to OGame!
First, and hands-down most importantly, this game requires above all else EFFORT. The skill mostly comes with the EFFORT, but you need to put in the EFFORT first. That means being active and very patient sometimes. You DO NOT get highly-ranked in OGame overnight.
If you think you can't be logged into OGame at worst once every two days, just close this window and forget about that neat little browser game you just found in a random Google search. (By the way, I say that's the worst scenario because 99.99999999999% of alliances in this game prefer you to log in at least once a day. More often than not, they down-right expect it.)
Next, although this is by no means a requirement, make some friends! I know that sounds hokey, but in this game- especially in servers (commonly called 'Universes') that allow multiple buddies to attack or defend someone in unison- friends will help you phenomenally. Chances are that friends will make your OGame journey more enjoyable, and might even be able to help you by giving/trading resources and information. If they won't do those, then they probably aren't your friend after all, are they?
Now as for starting out, and I mean like you still haven't read the 'Welcome to OGame' message in your inbox yet status, a perfect 'guide for that is here on the OGame Wiki-
http://ogame.wikia.com/wiki/Quick_Start_Guide
Once you accomplish that, It's pretty much up to you what you do. It is highly recommended, however, that you focus on your Homeworld's Mines and Solar Plant. In this game, how much resources you produce is a major measure of your strength, as they are converted into everything you need to grow your empire.
When your Homeworld's mines are around Metal 16, Crystal 16, Deuterium 12, And Solar Plant 19, you might want to focus your sights space-ward to colonize more colonies. You then can build mines on those colonies, further improving your resource output. You can then colonize another colony, improve its mines, get more resources.....you see where I'm going with this?
This 'guide' is rather vague, I know. You can find lots of information here on the OGame Wiki-http://ogame.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
And there's always the OGame Boards-http://board.ogame.us/index.php?page=Portal
If you have a question, I would recommend that you post it here rather than there, simply because some people o the boards can be quite.........rude, we'll say to new players. Not all of them, of course, but you never know.....
